‘French expat Esther Gauthier brought her native country’s latest fitness craze stateside to Tribeca. Aqua spinning, which involves underwater cycling, provides a low-impact, high-resistance workout, which, according to its devotees, reduces stress on joints and tones up cellulite. David Obuchowski of DO Architecture, joined forces with Gauthier to create a studio that feels minimal and spa-like thanks to the blend of concrete, brick and wood. The entrance area is a real success with it’s oak flooring and contemporary lighting; the darkwood changing rooms have a monochromatic scheme. The pool room itself is sparse yet bright, with white brick walls and a lofty ceiling.’
